Full Day Buon Ma Thuot City Tour

From a savage land inhabited mostly by Ede ethnic group, they have seen the first settlement of Kinh people (Vietnamese) since 1920. From then on, the Kinh people from lowland have immigrated more and more, in responses to the call of French colonist to work in coffee plantations. The city was established, named as Buon Ma Thuot or Buon Ama Thuot, literally meaning in Ede language as “the village of Thuot’s Father”.

Since then the city has been a witness over the course of history. Fierce tragedy of colonialism is recorded at Buon Ma Thuot Penitentiary. The six-road junction proudly stands as a vestige of inevitable American war, uprising and depression events. But most of all, it is a town of diversified contrasts, blended of native and immigration ethnographic values, urbanisation and rurality, culture and nature, all to be appreciated on each exhibits in the renown and well presented Daklak Museum. Continue to drive 40km further to Dray Sap waterfall, admire this natural beauty as symbol for the Highland’s wilderness and romance.

Itinerary

8:00 Depart from LAK for Buon Ma Thuot (50km), visit Daklak ethnic museum, the first Ede village with its typical long house and stop for a break at Trung Nguyen coffee house, the most famous Vietnamese coffee brand. Continue the orientation tour of Buon Ma Thuot City, passing the Buon Ma Thuot Penitentiary, built by French colonist since 1900, the six-road junction before heading to Dray Sap waterfall. Walk around to take photos, enjoy a picnic lunch and relax before return to LAK through a scenic, rural roads made up of pepper, coffee and other tropical plantation. Finish the tour around 17:00.
